I always enjoy the challenge of creating something that fits into the theme of the shows. For this piece I drew inspiration from a fringe theory that suggests extraterrestrial visitors to Earth are time traveling humans from the future. No one can predict the future, but there are inevitabilities in the foreseeable. More flora and fauna will go extinct. Technology will increasingly replace organic processes. And our world will slowly fill up with artificial everything: artificially created plants, artificially created animals, artificial environments, artificial intelligence, and artificial humans. After we are gone, there will only be monuments to what once was. This piece is intended not only to evoke the feeling of a monument, but also to mimic a trophy; a satirical award for our stellar stewardship of the planet.
