Marla is a member of Laguna Pueblo of New Mexico. Here is where she finds inspiration in making her art and connecting with family, tradition, and inspiration. Miss Allison is a full-time artist and part-time art teacher at the elementary school of St. Joseph’s Mission School, where she attended during her youth. As an art teacher, she is able to inspire the children from Laguna Pueblo and the surrounding area with art. She is a contemporary/abstract artist and mainly chooses the medium of acrylic paints. Currently, she is taking classes in learning the medium of glasswork at Bullseye Glass in Santa Fe, NM where she is evolving the painting style she uses to the additional medium of glass.

Ms. Allison found the need for expression through art in her youth and continued her education at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM. She graduated with an Associate's Degree in three-dimensional art. While there, Marla, had the opportunity to study under the direction of Mateo Romero. Since graduating from I.A.I.A. in Santa Fe, NM Marla has been accepted and displayed artwork at the Heard Museum Indian Fair and Market, the Santa Fe Indian Market, and the Smithsonian in New York. Permanent collections with Marla’s work are found in The Red Cloud Indian School Collections in Pine Ridge, SD, The Heard Museum Permanent Collection in Phoenix, AZ, The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, Santa Fe, NM, and various private collections around the country Berlin, Germany, and Rome, Italy.

Recently Miss Allison has received the Eric and Barbara Dobkin Native Woman’s Fellowship at the School for Advanced Research (S.A.R.) in Santa Fe, NM, and finished her fellowship in June of 2010.
