An apartment of Compiano Village in Parma, Italy
I was in Italy for a few weeks in October and brought all my painting gear with me to paint from life. It rained every day! We decided to tour Compiano Castle and the village. Along the narrow winding streets leading up a hill was this apartment. I loved the colors and the peeling paint and plaster indicating the age of a few centuries ago. What really caught my eye were the potted plants and the tiny red mailbox. Someone lives there! Along the left side of the wall was painted 99. Is it the address or did someone leave a stamp to say they were there in 1999. I waited a while for someone to come out so I could ask how old the village was. There it was on a wall up the road. It was built in the middle ages and built around 800 AD. It was said that the Grimaldi’s, Royal Family of Monaco, have their roots there.
