cathy rowten
Although there is a spattering of still-life and landscapes from Cathy, she is predominantly a painter of people. Her emphasis is on mood and light in both her portraits and also in her figurative paintings, which are often of dancers captured in an unguarded moment. She strives to connect us to the subject’s emotion, rather than merely recording a collection of features. As a lifetime student of face and form, her portraits range from the classic style to those done in a bold, quick interpretation,
With a background in graphic arts, she has since studied with figure painters such as Zhang Wen Xin, Joseph Larusso, and Carolyn Anderson.
Her commissioned portraits and paintings can be found in both private and corporate collections across the country.
