BUCK JONES

Harmon Jones earned a golf scholarship to Georgia Southern University. There, he enrolled in art classes. After college, Hoeun Chung (a professional portrait artist) took the young man under his wing. Mr. Chung mentored him for several years. Soon, Harmon began painting portraits and scenes of the American South and the Old West. It was then that he re-assumed his childhood's western-sounding nickname, 'Buck.'

Buck won two regional art shows in his home state soon after beginning his art career in earnest, and museums in Georgia also began to take notice of the upcoming artist. The original "Burning Bright" now lives in the Douglas County Museum of History and Art, near his hometown. It wasn't long until his work caught the eye of the founder of the Booth Western Art Museum.  The museum purchased "Ole' Jim," and it remains in the museum's permanent collection. Page 62 of the book entitled "Booth Western Art Museum (Works from the Permanent Collection)" features "Ole' Jim." Buck's name is also listed on the museum's list of artists here:Artists in Booth Museum Permanent Collection. The museum, in Cartersville, Georgia, is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution.

Publications such as Ask Art and the Columbia Daily Tribune have featured the artist. In 2020, he won a gold prize for "Early Start on the Butterfield" in the Awesome Art Spring Contest. Galleries in Georgia, Idaho (at the famous Cisco's), and Texas have featured and/or sold his works in the past.

Buck continues to study and admire the works of other great artists. He visits galleries and art museums that display all styles of artistic works. Buck admires the works of many famous artists, both current and historical. He has been a professional artist for many years and declares, "Art is my life!" He hopes to inspire in others a love for the people, scenery, and wildlife of America and to spark admiration and respect for those rugged individuals who came before us and blazed remarkable trails for us to follow!
